Sex toys have come a long way in recent years, but many still cater to a binary view of gender and sexuality. As a sexologist, I believe it’s important to advocate for and support gender neutral sex toys that are inclusive of all bodies and identities. In this blog post, I will explore why gender neutral sex toys are important, provide examples of types of such toys, and offer tips on how to incorporate them into your play.
Why Gender Neutral Sex Toys are Important:
- They promote inclusivity and diversity in the sex toy industry.
- They allow individuals to explore their sexuality without feeling limited by traditional gender roles or expectations.
- They can be used by people of all genders and sexual orientations.
- They can help break down harmful stereotypes and stigmas surrounding gender and sexuality.
Types of Gender Neutral Sex Toys:
- Dildos: Many dildos are designed with a specific gender in mind, but there are also many gender neutral options available. Look for dildos that are not anatomically specific or that have a more abstract shape.
- Vibrators: Like dildos, many vibrators are marketed towards a specific gender, but there are also many gender neutral options available. Bullet vibrators, wand vibrators, and external stimulators like the We-Vibe Touch X are all great options.
- Butt plugs: Butt plugs are another type of sex toy that can be used by people of all genders. Look for ones that have a non-anatomical shape or that are marketed as “unisex.”
- Strap-ons: Strap-ons can be used by people of all genders and sexual orientations. Look for harnesses that are adjustable to fit a variety of body types and dildos that are not anatomically specific.
How to Incorporate Gender Neutral Sex Toys into Your Play:
- Communicate with your partner(s) about what you’re interested in trying and what your boundaries are.
- Experiment with different types of toys to find what feels good for you.
- Use plenty of lube to make sure everything is comfortable and pleasurable.
- Don’t be afraid to try new things and explore your sexuality in a way that feels authentic to you.
Brands That Offer Gender Neutral Sex Toys:
- Tantus: Tantus offers a wide range of gender neutral dildos, vibrators, and butt plugs made from body-safe silicone.
- Fun Factory: Fun Factory offers a variety of vibrators and dildos that are not anatomically specific and can be used by people of all genders.
- SpareParts HardWear: SpareParts HardWear offers high-quality, adjustable strap-on harnesses that can be used by people of all genders.
- Blush Novelties: Blush Novelties offers a variety of gender neutral dildos and vibrators at an affordable price point.
Incorporating gender neutral sex toys into your play can be a liberating and empowering experience. By breaking down traditional gender roles and expectations, these toys allow for a more inclusive and diverse exploration of sexuality. Whether you’re using a dildo, vibrator, butt plug, or strap-on, it’s important to communicate with your partner(s) and experiment with what feels good for you. By supporting brands that offer gender neutral options and advocating for inclusivity in the sex toy industry, we can continue to break the binary and create a more accepting and diverse world of sexual exploration.
