Now that Singapore is opening up to 10 max for social gatherings, I’m being pressured at all fronts to resume in-person workshops. I’m ok with mask-on situations but when I run a BJ workshop obviously there is the practice-on-carrot aka mask-off component to it.
And the one time exemption I did an in-person BJ workshop when Singapore opened to max 8 last year, I was really uncomfortable with the whole thing. It was on the repeated insistence of friends and I was angry with myself for saying yes.
I have self-isolated myself for most of the last two years – limiting contact to clients, family and only a few friends. I’ve hosted four virtual festivals, presented at numerous virtual festivals, and conducted countless virtual events by now.
I don’t know anybody who doesn’t know someone who has caught Covid. There is obviously no shame in catching it. As a highly sensitive person with demonstrated terrible immune system, I do know I’m susceptible to catching it hence the prolonged self-isolation. I haven’t caught Covid yet.
It’s not a matter of getting Covid over with. One doesn’t know for sure the effects of Covid on different individuals and getting it doesn’t mean not getting it again.
I view it as part of my responsibility as a person working with vulnerable clients – people with cancer and disabilities to self isolate. I’m not ready to do mask-off in-person workshops. Hence no BJ workshops.
Just because others do it doesn’t mean I need to. I’m not ready to do it whatever the amount.
It’s just not worth it for me. Health before money.
