I review the booklet I’ll Walk With You: A Guide for Parents for Transgender Children in this below video.
As the title states, it is a resource for parents whose child identifies as transgender. Divided into easy sections to navigate, it answers the Why, What, When, How, Who, and Where questions that parents might have.
The first question being: Why does my child have to be transgender? Is it my fault?
It’s real. It’s one of the first questions any parent would have. Having addressed questions and terms, it explained more about the transitioning process and treatments without getting too technical. It is a wonderful introductory guide without overwhelming the reader, with further places one can go to seek help.
I absolutely love this resource. It is beautifully illustrated and I can feel the intentionality and heart behind it. I would highly recommend it to parents, people who are transgender, and their allies – teachers, helping professionals, and friends.
Each and every one of us should take responsibility to get more information and be more educated because ignorance can do a lot of harm to the people we know who are transgender – and I am sure we have met or know of somebody who is transgender in our life.
You can request for their downloadable PDF and it doesn’t cost a thing – to take a bit and time, and be more educated. Please do it. Be the person who make an effort to learn because you care.
About: I’ll Walk With You is a guide for parents of transgender children to answer their frequently asked questions about what it means to be transgender, and to transition. Collectively worked on by transgender representatives from Oogachaga, Project X, The T Project, and TransgenderSG, this guide aims to be a companion to parents who may be feeling lost, confused, or distressed about their child’s gender identity, while also affirming their transgender children.
