* Warning! Explosive words ahead! *
Yesterday I posted that I went for Covid vaccine (1st of 2 jabs).
Today, I got some sex educator posting the comment “Experimental Biological Agent” on my IG wall
(which has since been deleted – not by me).
It hurt.
I explained that I work with cancer survivors who cannot get vaccinated due to their treatments.
I also work with people with disabilities and I do not wish for any of my clients to get the virus from me.
In an ideal world, none of us need to even think about vaccines.
(paraphrasing from memory).
In case you didn’t know…
people undergoing cancer CANNOT get vaccinated
people who STILL have cancer CANNOT get vaccinated
(and I won’t claim to know who else cannot get vaccinated)
and I work directly with people with cancer and/ or going treatments.
I do relationship and sexuality counseling for cancer survivors,
people with disabilities AND their parents
AND many other types of clients.
Supporting people with cancer IS a very important part of my work,
because my mom battled breast cancer (and died from it).
For me, supporting people (with cancer or otherwise) IS a privilege
and one which I take extremely seriously.
Why did I need to explain?
I didn’t need to – that person was putting their ignorance and stupidity onto me.
I was so hurt
(even though yeah, yeah, yeah I shouldn’t be hurt, shouldn’t care, but I did).
To be honest, getting vaccinated IS a sore point for me.
I would not choose to get vaccinated IF NOT FOR MY WORK.
But because of my work, it wasn’t even a question.
It was the right thing to do.
I did not need this “friend” to post thoughtless 1 sec comment
like “Experimental Biological Agent” on my IG wall.
I wasn’t asking for their opinion.
By the time, this person decided to shit on my IG wall –
I already got it done, didn’t need to feel worse than I already felt.
Whether one get vaccinates is THEIR choice.
It’s so funny that as 40+ year old,
people STILL think they have a right to tell ME what do with my body.
Before getting vaccinated,
friends were telling me, “don’t do it”, “people die” etc.
I wasn’t ASKING for your opinion.
If I was asking, I would tell you.
I was telling you I was going to it, and then I did it.
So please, just shut up if you have nothing good to say to people
– about vaccines or otherwise.
Really.
Your flippant remarks/ comments HURT others more than the jab ever will.
Whether you get vaccinated is your choice.
You need to be prepared to live with the consequences.
This is also an invite to think before you open to speak.
