I interviewed Angelyn Seet-Loh who is a dedicated Childbirth Educator and Director of ParentLink.Org
1) Who are you?
I am Angelyn Seet, director of ParentLink, Childbirth Educator and Doula. I teach the Bradley Method® of Husband-Coached Childbirth classes and I support pregnant couples in their journey through labour and birth. This involves meeting with many expectant new parents and helping them navigate the medical system in Singapore, teaching them about the physiology of pregnancy, labour and childbirth as well as postpartum care and early parenthood including breastfeeding and newborn care. When I am at a birth, I use various physical techniques as comfort measures, I calm the emotions of the labouring mother and I help create a safe space for the mother to surrender to her labour and tune into her body more deeply. Birth is a very primal instinct for all labouring mothers.
2) Why do you what do you do?
Attending a birth is one of life’s greatest experiences. Witnessing the miracle of life. Holding a labouring mother’s hands. Or, supporting them through that final pushing stage. All of it is very exhilarating! Those babies are pretty darn cute too!
3) What do you stand for?
Empowerment, Wisdom of Mother Nature and Trusting your Body.
4) What are your future plans?
There are future plans to begin apprenticing to be a home birth midwife in the states. At the moment, Singapore’s medical system is not very supportive of home births so there isn’t any opportunity to learn this here locally.
5) Any advice for readers?
Don’t go through life being happily ignorant. Look for the truth and seek it earnestly. You may be wonderfully surprised at what you find. Don’t allow fear to hold you back from your happiness. If I had given in to my fear and stayed in my comfort zone, I would not have known the greatest joy and the sweetest pain of birth and motherhood. Now, my son Jeremiah is 7 and my daughter Jodie is 4 and I thank God everyday I had faced my fears and empowered myself with the knowledge to have into 2 beautiful ecstatic drug free births.
