I was part of a panel of four on “Physiological Change: Self Care” organised by The Change School on Wed 4 April 2017.
During the session, I talked about my personal story of having experienced
- Depression
- Hives for months
- Role of exercise in my life
- Importance of discipline
- Returning to our daily routines that anchor us
I’d be the first to admit that I’m not perfect and that I’ve learned about life and about myself through trial and error. I’ve talked about and wrote about the above numerous times and you may find my articles published in Elephant Journal useful here.
Event Synopsis:
“Caring for yourself is not self-indulgence, it is self-preservation” – Audre Lorde

Daily Life/Work can be stressful. From the never-ending stream of work deadlines, social obligations, instant communications and life admin, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed by the chaos and the physiological impact of trying to keep up.
Too often we feel drained and depleted because we are too willing to please others, putting their needs ahead of our own. Most of us have heard about the importance of self-care, but we don’t do it enough because we don’t know how. Self-care is about nurturing our body, mind and spirit – taking care of our physical, mental and emotional wellbeing – for our own sanity and sustainability.
The time and effort we invest in self-care practices will determine the positivity, confidence and resilience we bring to our daily Life/Work.
Come along to this month’s Change Talks on Self Care to address these key questions:
– How do you create the space for self-care?
– What habits can you create for yourself for a saner, more – sustainable life?
– How do you stay motivated and disciplined to sustain a healthy and balanced lifestyle?
– How do you create boundaries to avoid burnout and bring our very best selves to our daily Life/Work?
Who should attend?
– Professionals / Business owners looking to create more work/life balance
– Entrepreuners suffering symptoms of burnout, craving more quality space and guidance for taking better care of themselves
– Over-achievers who are driven by demands of their inner critic
– People-pleasers who struggle to say ‘no’ and prioritise themselves
– Serial worriers seeking support with creating better habits for personal sanity and sustainability
-New/Young parents needing to take time for yourself without feeling guilty
– Anyone interested in building better habits, routines and practices for self-care

About Dr. Martha Tara Lee
Surrounded by friends who were sexually inhibited and struck by dire lack of positive conversations around sex and sexuality in Singapore, Dr. Martha Tara Lee set out to make a positive difference in embarking on her doctorate in human sexuality before launching Eros Coaching in 2009. Today, she remains dedicated to working with individuals and couples who wish to lead self-actualised and pleasure-filled lives.
She also holds certificates in counselling, coaching and sex therapy, and has most recently completed her fourth degree – a Masters in Counselling. In practice for more than seven years, she is the only certified sexuality educator by the American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors and Therapists (AASECT) in Singapore.
Often cited in the local media, Dr. Lee is the appointed sex expert for Men’s Health Singapore, and Men’s Health Malaysia. She was recognised as one of ‘Top 50 Inspiring Women Under 40′ by Her World in July 2010, and one of ‘Top 100 Inspiring Women’ by CozyCot in March 2011. She is the host of weekly radio show Eros Evolution on the OMTimes Radio Network. She has published three books: Love, Sex and Everything In-Between, Orgasmic Yoga and From Princess to Queen.
Martha works with individuals and couples in private coaching sessions, and conducts her own workshops. She takes prides in making sure all her workshops are also fun, educational, and sex-positive. This comes easily to her because even though she is extremely dedicated and serious about her work, she fundamentally believes that sex is meant to be fun, wonderful, amazing and sacred. As such, this serious light-heartedness has shone through again and again. For her full profile, click here. Email her here.
